With the economy the state that it is in many people are looking for cost effective alternatives in all aspects of their lives. This is certainly true when it comes to home renovations. One of the quickest ways to spruce up that old dingy bathroom is by changing your tub surround. There are plenty of choices that can fit into any budget and or capabilities.

Doing self home renovations has become a very popular activity. Because of this trend many products are designed specifically for installation by a non-professional. When it comes to the bathtub stall several products are on the market that are made for home installation. The materials that these kits are made of are usually PVC or ABS. This type of material is less expensive and easier to work. If an error is made in the installation the cost for fixing it is much less than if you were to use a more expensive material. These are not your only choices in materials but might be the best answer if this is your first installation.

If you hire a professional or have some experience you have several more exotic materials that can be selected. Things like tile, stone, granite, and marble will cost much more than PVC or ABS so it is important to know what you are doing. These materials are also not flexible like PVC or ABS so it is important that you measurements and cuts are exact to fit as snugly as possible. Gaps or space that are left must be completely grouted or caulked to seal them up from water or steam. Even the smallest crack is vulnerable to steam from a shower.

Do your homework before you select your tub surround. Because there are so many choices in materials, price and installation it is important to know your options.
