If you have a small bathroom or powder room that you want to update, one of the most important decisions that you will make is what sink to install. Small bathrooms do not really have much room for large vanity sinks and the wrong sink could make the space feel cramped. There are several varieties of extra small bathroom sinks that can make any powder room look new again.
Your first option, and probably the most popular is a pedestal sink. Pedestal sinks are usually one piece that starts at the floor with a wide base. The single leg or base usually tampers down to its thinnest point about half way up to the basin, then it starts to widen again. The pedestal widens into the basin which is most often oval in shape. A pedestal sink will most likely be made of porcelain and as a result be quite heavy despite the fact that it is small. The small footprint makes this an excellent choice for small bathrooms not only because it doesn’t take up much room, but also because the open space under the sink basin gives the impression that the room is larger. Pedestal bathroom sinks are kind of regal looking and are a great choice for a traditionally decorated home.
Another small bathroom sink choice is the console sink. Console sinks look kind of like a table with two legs in front and the back edge of the table connected to the wall instead of having legs. The table has a sink basin in the center of it so there is a small amount of counter space. Again, the open space under the sink creates the illusion of size in a small bathroom. Bathroom console sinks are a bit less formal than pedestal sinks and work well in country style homes.
One final idea is a wall mounted sink. If you are really short on space and the bathroom is in your garage or basement where it is more of a work room than a guest bathroom, then a wall mounted sink could be the solution for you. Corner wall mounted sinks are the smallest kind and are usually made of some kind of metal.
